A wild panda trapped in Zhenghe River was successfully saved after three hours' rescue on Tuesday in Wolong National Nature Reserve of southwest China's Sichuan Province.
Workers at Zhenghe Hydropower Station found the trapped panda at around 16:00 in surveillance video and called police for rescue.
Local forest police officers and veterinarians arrived and found the panda was on a metal walkway, about four meters away from the dam’s top.
Despite a series of rescue efforts, the panda remained unable to return to bank. As night fell, the panda became anxious and unpredictable, so rescuers decided to use the tranquilizer gun.
At around 19:00, the panda was lifted up and pulled back to bank. After some examinations, the panda, female and estimated to be around four years old, was unscathed.
The panda woke up at 21:00, and was instantly released to nature.
It is speculated that the panda was trapped when she failed to get across the torrential river.
