A sandstorm engulfed cities and counties throughout Kashi Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Tuesday, shrouding areas in mushroom-like clouds of dust and sand.
Kashi City and counties like Shache, Yecheng, Zepu and Yopurga all suffered from low road visibility and high wind speed that heavily damaged homes and trees.
When the sandstorm took place, the wind speed had reached over 38 kilometers per hour in some areas.
Local meteorological department warns that the storm will last for some time and will most likely affect local agriculture and traffic.
According to forecast from the Xinjiang Meteorological Observatory, in addition to Kashi Prefecture, other regions in Tarim Basin in southern Xinjiang will also suffer from sandstorms in the next three days. While in northern Xinjiang, heavy rain will hit the area, which has the possibility of creating geological disasters.
