Storyline

China's self-developed underwater training suit for astronauts has made its debut on Friday in Beijing at a summit forum about the development strategy of space medico-engineering.

The suit is designed for astronauts to carry out underwater trainings which are important for them to get used to the weightless environment in space.
The China Astronaut Research and Training Center started to develop the training suit in 2014 and has overcame many technological problems, such as control of pressure and temperature-humidity, acquisition and transmission of signal and voice in the state of neutral buoyancy.

The digital technique has also been widely used in the research work.

"We applied the most advanced digital design ideology in developing the training suit. Digital tools are used in whole research process, including design, simulation, modeling and production. The digital tools were manufactured and tested relying on our digital platform developed by the Shanghai Feitian Zhongzhi Technology Services Co. Ltd.," said Yin Rui, deputy chief director with the astronaut system of China's Manned Space Project.

According to Yin, the underwater trainings for astronauts have been carried out as scheduled.

"The underwater training for astronauts has been carried out as scheduled. Some astronauts who have participated in the human engineering verification test for extravehicular activities are capable of conducting underwater operations and carry out human engineering evaluation. Other astronauts are also going through trainings as planned," said Yin.

Co-founded by China Aerospace and Technology Corporation, Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park Development Co. Ltd. and Xingzhong Entity Group, Shanghai Feitian Zhongzhi Technology Services Co. Ltd. is a technology service platform.
