Foshan in south China's Guangdong Province will became the 17th city to join China's trillion-yuan club, according to the latest predictive data released by the city government.
Preliminary figures showed that the city's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2019 reached about 1.08 trillion yuan (about 157 billion U.S. dollars ) in 2019, a 6.8 percent growth year on year.
That made Foshan the third city after Guangzhou and Shenzhen in the province to join in the country's trillion-yuan club.
Although the final data is not out yet, preliminary figures indicate the city is on track to reach its goal.
Officials said the city's high level of GDP is owing to its robust industrial development and highly active private enterprises.
