China on Saturday reported a total of 45 new cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), with 44 cases imported from overseas, the National Health Commission said Sunday.

Of the total, eight were reported in Guangdong Province, seven in Tianjin Municipality, seven in Shanghai Municipality, four in Beijing, three respectively in the provinces of Liaoning, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, two in Sichuan Province, one respectively in the provinces of Shanxi, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Jilin, Fujian, Jiangxi, Guizhou and Chongqing Municipality. By the end of Saturday, 693 imported cases had been reported, said the commission.

Also on Saturday, five deaths (all in Hubei ) and 28 new suspected cases were reported on the mainland, said the commission.

On Saturday, 477 people were discharged from hospital upon recovery, while the number of severe cases decreased by 179.

The overall number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland had reached 81,439 by the end of Saturday, including 2,691 patients who were still being treated, 75,448 patients who had been discharged upon recovery, and 3,300 people who died of the disease.

The commission said that 174 people were still suspected of being infected with the virus, and that 18,581 close contacts were still under medical observation.

No new confirmed case was reported in Wuhan on Saturday.

The health commission of Hubei Province said the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hubei remained unchanged at 67,801 by Saturday, including 50,006 in the provincial capital city of Wuhan.

By the end of Saturday, 582 confirmed cases including four deaths had been reported in Hong Kong, 37 confirmed cases in Macao and 283 in Taiwan, including two deaths.

A total of 112 patients in Hong Kong, 10 in Macao and 30 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospital upon recovery.
