Storyline

Central China's Wuhan City, the worst-hit city by COVID-19 epidemic in China, started its first day of nucleic acid testing and screening, as the city on Monday issued a notice to screen and check the nucleic acid for 10 days across the city.

In both city's East West Lake district and Qiaokou District, local residents were all queuing up for the nucleic acid testing in front of the community centers.

Many local residents think this testing measure is good for them, especially for their kids and their families.

"There are three of us, including one child. I think this testing is very good. It also helped me to be at ease and protect myself," said Zhang Wenying, local resident in one community in East West Lake District.

"I'm more rest assured to do it together with my daughter. We are all rest assured, both to me and my daughter," said another local resident surnamed Liu.

According to a nurse, Peng Yanxia, "After we get one person's nucleic acid, we disinfect them [equipment], and then we sample the next person, so there's no cross-contamination."

Before each testing, the community staff will confirm the test list by phone or door-to-door. Priority will be given to the key personnel in the old and dense residential communities. Door-to-door testing will also be arranged for the relevant difficult groups.

"We will get to know everyone's situation in our community, which helps us to carry out targeted prevention and control," said Yao Hanhua, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) committee of Qiaokou District, Wuhan City.
