"The astronauts' working zone won't include storage racks and bags on the right which are set for this trip to test transport capability. It's some 13 cubic meters, larger than previous ones. As planned, six to seven astronauts can work together here."

The return capsule of the trial version of China's new-generation manned spaceship was opened in Beijing recently, with the interior arrangements first shown to the public.
Covered with home-grown thermal protection material, the return capsule, with some seriously burnt scars, survived the searing 3,000 degrees Celsius heat of atmospheric reentry. Key equipment and all parts were well protected from being scorched.
It demonstrated the successful application of China-developed thermal protection material, according to engineers.
As the capsule can transport both people and goods, it was divided into two parts.
On the right, there were storage racks and bags to test the transport capability. The mission required the capsule to deliver nearly 1,000 kinds of supplies to the space station, a space trip with heavier goods than ever before.
Astronauts' living zone was designed on the left, with a toilet and a folding dining table there.
After further tests, all interior furniture was in good conditions.
According to Tian Zheng, deputy chief designer of the general assembly of China's new-generation experimental manned spaceship under the China Academy of Space Technology, said the split design in the capsule was successful.
"The astronauts' working zone won't include storage racks and bags on the right which are set for this trip to test transport capability. It's some 13 cubic meters, larger than previous ones. As planned, six to seven astronauts can work together here," said Tian.
China's new large carrier rocket Long March-5B made its maiden flight on May 5, sending the trial version of China's new-generation manned spaceship into space.
The return capsule successfully came back to the Dongfeng landing site in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on May 8 and was delivered to Beijing on May 15.
