Storyline

The 2020 Beijing International Automotive Expo, or Auto China 2020 kicked off in Beijing on Saturday and will run until October 5, with many new vehicles making their debuts.

As the COVID-19 pandemic still goes rampant around the globe, Auto China 2020 in Beijing is the only top auto expo put up in the world this year. The venue covers a floor space of 200,000 square meters, presenting 785 auto models, of which 82 are world debuts, 36 concept vehicles and 160 new energy vehicles (NEV).

The show focuses on innovative autos with combined technologies of the new and traditional automobile manufacturing, such as the intelligent connected vehicles and the lightweight technology, reflecting innovative ideas and new developments of the industry from multiple perspectives.

China's auto market has rapidly recovered from the COVID-19 crash in recent months. The country's auto sales rose 11.6 percent in August from a year earlier, the fifth straight rise after plunging during the lockdown.

Thanks to the better-than-expected market recovery, China's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales surged 26 percent year on year in August. Sales of passenger vehicles also expanded 8.9 percent in August, registering the fastest growth since May 2018.

The show was initially planned for April this year but was delayed in light of the prevention and control of the COVID-19.
