Storyline

The reentry module of China's manned spacecraft Shenzhou-10 on Friday was handed over to the government of central China's Hunan Province, and it will be exhibited in the local Shaoshan Mao Zedong Memorial Hall in the long term.

At about 10:00, the China Manned Space Engineering Office, the Hunan Provincial People's Government and astronaut Zhang Xiaoguang jointly unveiled the reentry module in Shaoshan, hometown of the late Chinese leader Mao Zedong.

"The reentry module of Shenzhou-10 will be exhibited in Shaoshan. This represents the affection of the country, the anticipation of the nation and the aspiration of all those involved in the country's aerospace development. It is also a deep integration of the spirit of manned space program and the red culture," said Zhang Xiaoguang.

The return module has been displayed at various important exhibitions.

It will be exhibited in the Shaoshan Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, which can meet the required temperature and humidity for the returned cabin.

According to Yang Guoli, curator of the memorial hall, the value of China's aerospace achievements as well as Mao's spirit, which is manifested in his poem "We can bring down the moon from the Ninth Heaven, or catch the giant turtles in the sea," could have an increased effect when combined with the display of the Shenzhou-10 return capsule.

"It can deeply integrate the spirit of the manned space program with the red culture of the late leader's hometown, make the aerospace achievement and Mao's passion for space exploration set each other off. We will make full use of the memorial hall for education on patriotism and revolutionary tradition, and promote the high-quality development of red tourism in Shaoshan," said Yang.

Red tourism features visits to sites with significance of China's revolutionary history.

Launched on June 11, 2013, Shenzhou-10 docked with experimental space lab Tiangong-1 twice, once through automatic operation and the other manually.

The re-entry capsule of Shenzhou-10 spacecraft successfully landed at the main landing site in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on June 26, 2013.
