Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site that sits on the coast of south China's island province of Hainan successfully launched the Long March-8 rocket that carried five satellites, demonstrating the launch center's abilities in high-density fulfillment of multiple spacecraft launch tasks.
This year, the launch site has fulfilled a series of prominent and high-density launch missions of Long March-5B rocket, Tianwen-1 Mars probe, Chang'e-5 lunar probe and Long March-8 rocket.
"We carried out the on-site meteorological support for all the five launch tasks this year. We hold the joint consultations with departments encompassing the Beijing Climate Center, China Meteorological Administration and Hainan Meteorological Service," said Gui Zhicheng, forecaster of hydrometeorology office under technology department of Xichang Satellite Launch Center.
Put in use in June 2016, Wenchang center is the fourth space launch site in China, following three in Jiuquan, Xichang and Taiyuan, and the only launch center near the sea. It has built the largest and the most advanced cryogenic loading system, cultivated an experienced command and operation team, formed a set of practical management experience and achieved the informatization and intensification for the launch tests.
"We need to take fully advantages of the policies of the Free Trade Port and launch capability of Wenchang, primarily push forward the implementation of a batch of important projects and vigorously foster the level of commercialization of the space industry. To make the location not only a launch base, but an industrial base and a platform for international communication," said Han Yong, director of Wenchang International Space City Administration.
Wenchang will maintain the high-density launch tasks in 2021 and provide strong support for deep space exploration, planetary exploration, space station construction and constellation network construction.
Scientists and engineers of the launch center committed to contribute to the first goal of the Centenary Goals of building a moderately prosperous society in all aspects by the time the Communist Party of China (CPC) celebrates its centenary in 2021.
