The Spring Festival Gala's sub-venue in the historical city of Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, dazzled audiences tuning in from around the world on Friday with a rousing series of musical and cultural performances showcasing the region's unique characteristics.
Hosted by the China Media Group (CMG) on the eve of the Chinese New Year on Friday, the gala consists of a main venue in Beijing and four sub-venues in Shenyang, Xi'an, Kashgar, and Changsha, presenting a colorful cultural feast and highlighting the auspicious, festive atmosphere of the Spring Festival.
The Xi'an sub-venue was located in the Datang Everbright city, a tourist landmark with distinctive characteristics of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) which features a grand street stretching for a total length of 2,100 meters from north to south, and spanning some 500 meters from east to west.
The gala showcase in Xi'an featured performances that integrate various traditional and trendy artistic forms such as a Shaanxi-style rap, creative water sleeves, and symphonic percussion, recreating the grand scenes of the historical capital Chang'an during the Tang Dynasty period.
Xi'an, a city with over 3,100 years of history, served as the capital for 13 dynasties in Chinese history. As the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, Xi'an is a thriving metropolis in western China, rich with history and culture.
It is also home to the world-renowned Terracotta Warriors, which were created during the Qin Dynasty (221-207 BC) but were only discovered in the 1970s, later being hailed as one of the greatest findings of the 20th century.
