Storyline

Agricultural bases across China have been launching flower-themed cultural activities to attract springtime tourism, giving visitors an opportunity to witness the transformations in the country's farming practices.

Yiquan Ecological Farm in Anji City, east China's Zhejiang Province, has set up special tourist programs including a farming culture experience area and a rural agricultural touring area.

In the large rapeseed fields, groups of tourists take photos and watch modern agricultural production up close.

"There are now many new methods, like drones, being used to plant crops, which was really eye-opening to see," said Tong Wei, a tourist.

"[Our tourist project] also conveys knowledge about farming culture. The rapeseed flowers have helped us attract nearly 2,000 tourists this year," said Zhu Lingling, person in charge of the agricultural base.

In southwest China's Sichuan Province, Tianfu Agricultural Expo Park is continuing its flower culture after hosting the International Horticultural Exhibition 2024 Chengdu. A total of 23 new varieties of rapeseed from multiple scientific research institutes across the country are being planted in its experimental fields, with the blooming flowers turning the field into a colorful carpet when seen from the air.

"I came with my family to take a look at the rapeseed flowers and the fields. We also rode bicycles and did some parent-child activities. It's great," said tourist Qi Yangrui.

Overlooking the Expo park and nearby farmland, a 24-meter-high tower welcomes visitors to climb its stairs and enjoy a view of the agricultural landscape. The structure is creatively painted in 24 colors, reflecting the 24 solar terms traditionally observed by Chinese farmers.

The park has also organized flower field karaoke events, igniting even more enthusiasm among visitors.

"In fact, we hope to provide urban residents with an environment that is more relaxing and closer to nature. According to calculations, our overall operating performance have increased by nearly 30 to 40 percent compared with the same period last year," said Sun Kai, business operation manager of the expo park.
