Despite the destruction and hunger in Gaza, Palestinians gather this Ramadan for “Al-Lahwaniya”, sharing modest meals on tables.

During this Ramadan, amidst the ruins of destroyed homes, the people of Gaza come together in a tradition known as “Al-Lahwaniya”.

Despite the devastation, hunger, and blockade, Palestinian families and neighbors in Beit Lahya north of Gaza Strip, unite to share modest meals in an atmosphere filed with warmth and hope.

These gatherings, although humble, carry immense significance. The tables often lack meat or chicken, but they are abundant in joy, compassion, and unity.

Families bring whatever they can contribute; simple dishes, bread, and traditional Ramadan desserts. The spirit of Al-Lahwaniya lies not in the opulence of the feast but in the collective resilience and shared determination to create moments of happiness.

This tradition embodies the essence of Ramadan, fostering a sense of solidarity and reminding the world of the strength of Palestinian communities also their unwavering hope and their ability to find light even in the darkest of times.
