Storyline

A sudden cold front has brought the second snowfall of this coming winter onto Mohe in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province on Wednesday, 21 days earlier than the second snowfall of last year.

But the earlier-than-usual snowfalls have amused rather than surprised local residents and tourists from elsewhere.

The early morning snowfall soon reached 50 millimeters or about two inches thick in and around the county seat of Mohe, China's northernmost county.

"Wow, the snow today is heavier than that in August. In the morning, I opened the window right into a fairyland all around. The autumn is still hanging on here and heavy snow has overlapped winter on top of it for a spectacular scenery," acclaimed Lou Yu, a local Mohe resident.

Tourists from outside Mohe were even more entertained by the snowy scenes.

"Shanghai has not seen snow for well over a decade. It's my first time to see such a heavy snow in Mohe. I'm really excited and pleased!" said Zhu Jiamei from Shanghai.

"Really beautiful! It seldom snows in Taiwan. The snow here is so beautiful! So Marvelous! Superb!" said Wu, a tourist from China's Taiwan.

As local temperature was brought down to below freeze (1 degree Celsius below zero or 30.2 Fahrenheit) and was forecast to go down further, local residents and outside tourists all put on heavy winter clothes.

Local utilities provider has already started central heating services last week with a foresight of Wednesday's cold front.
