"The working temperature of the HTS superconductors, is relative higher than the ordinary superconductors. Ordinary superconductors need a temperature of 269 degrees Celsius below zero. However, the high temperature ones can work in only 196 degrees Celsius below zero, which is the boiling point of liquid nitrogen. Our HTS Maglev train has a characteristic of self-maglev, which means it doesn't need any extra energy to keep itself in suspension. This makes the train energy-efficient. The train is also self-directing and self-stabilizing. The designed speed of our HTS Maglev Train can reach 600 kilometers per hour."

China unveiled Wednesday the first prototype locomotive which uses high-temperature superconducting (HTS) maglev technology in the south-west city of Chengdu.
The launch of the first HTS high-speed Maglev train marks a major breakthrough in rail transport technology, with the train capable of self-directing and self-stabilizing.
The maglev train boasts a designed speed of 600 kilometers per hour, according to one of the train's designers of Southwest Jiaotong University.
According to Wu Zili the senior engineer from Southwest Jiaotong University in southwest China's Sichuan Province, the train doesn't need any extra energy to keep itself in suspension, which makes it energy efficient.

Southwest Jiaotong University is the first to apply HTS Maglev technology in the Rail Transit area. The test line of HTS Maglev Train built by Southwest Jiaotong University is also the first one in the world.
Combined with vacuum tube technology, the HTS Maglev train will reach a speed of 600 to 800 kilometers per hour, setting a milestone of speed in both land and air transport areas.
