The cumulative total of global COVID-19 cases had surpassed 166.86 million with the death toll exceeding 3.45 million as of Monday, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Globally, as of 14:50 Central European Summer Time (CEST) on Monday, there had been 166,860,081 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 3,459,996 deaths, WHO's COVID-19 dashboard showed.

As of Monday, a total of 1,489,727,128 vaccine doses had been administered around the world.

The United States has reported the most confirmed cases and deaths in the world since the pandemic started.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States reached 33,140,372, with the national death toll reaching 590,262 as of 19:20 Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Monday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.

India's COVID-19 tally reached 26,948,874 with 196,427 new cases registered in the past 24 hours, confirmed the federal health ministry on Tuesday.

This is the first time in one and a half months when the single-day spike has been below 200,000-mark.

The death toll reached 307,231 as 3,511 deaths were registered since Monday morning, falling below 4,000 for the first time in the past few days.

The decline in the number of both new cases and deaths per day is being attributed to lockdowns, partial or complete, imposed in most of the states.

Japan has reported a total of 718,864 confirmed cases and 12,312 deaths by 14:50 CEST, the WHO dashboard showed.

The Nepal Office of the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) on Sunday launched an Emergency Community Oxygen Station program to help the Himalayan country fight a second wave of COVID-19.

The foundation has handed over 20 oxygen cylinders, each with a capacity of 40L, 200 personal protective equipment, 100 face shields, 1,000 masks and two sanitation machines for community disinfection to Ward No. 17 of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Thailand on Monday reported 2,713 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 132,213 since the start of the pandemic.

In Germany, as of 00:00 Monday, 3,651,640 infections of COVID-19 had been confirmed and relevant deaths had reached 87,423 across the country, according to data released by the Robert Koch Institute, a German federal government agency and research institute responsible for disease control and prevention.

Peru has reported 1,925,289 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 68,053 deaths by Sunday, according to the ministry of health.

There are long lines in the capital city of Lima as Peru has began vaccinating its 65 to 69-year-olds. The country hopes to complete the vaccination of its entire elderly population in the coming weeks.
