Storyline

The world's largest consumer electronics show is going on in Las Vegas, returning to in-person activities after the virtual event of last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the metaverse coming under the spotlights.

During the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) week, the popular Digital Experience Pepcom show brought into focus the connected virtual world known as the metaverse.

"The metaverse virtual world is becoming unlimited, unbounded. How many places we can reach is very limited in our lifetime. But with the metaverse, through the VR devices with our AI technology, now we could automate our lifestyle. So the virtual you go check out all the places before the physical you to select a place. Buy a ticket together," said Dai Weili, co-founder of the multi-billion-dollar semiconductor solutions company Marvell Technology, as well as the co-founder of half a dozen startups, including MeetKai that brings artificial intelligence into the metaverse.

Dai also said while it can be fun and games, her mission is to develop the technology that can better the life of some people.

"How do you help the elderly, for example, people that as they get older, it's very hard for them to reach a lot of physical space. In the VR, our intelligent software, now they can with a VR device, they can travel around the world," said Dai.

In addition, while numerous big tech companies like Microsoft and Amazon pulled out of in-person events, the multinational conglomerate Sony continued its traditional media day show.

Moreover, Spider Man and Sony Pictures star Tom Holland made a special appearance, introducing his new movie Uncharted, which is based on a video game.

This year, while the pandemic forces the CES exhibitors to keep socially distant in limited space, a far cry from previous year crowds of 170,000 people, new tech is working to increase activity of human beings into ever expanding worlds.
