Storyline

The Russian Defense Ministry on Friday said the special military operation in Ukraine has progressed with elimination of Ukrainian land and air targets while the Ukrainian side claimed the operation since late February has resulted in up to 50 percent loss of its military equipment.

"The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation in Ukraine. High-precision air-based missiles have hit 18 areas of manpower and military equipment concentration and 10 firing positions of Ukrainian artillery and mortar batteries, including six Grad MLRS batteries in Zaitsevo, Kurdyumovka, Dzerzhinsk, Bakhmut, Artemovo and Ocheretino in 'Donetsk People's Republic'. Also, the headquarters of Azov nationalist formation has been destroyed near Pesochin, Kharkov Region," said Igor Konashenkov, spokesman of the Russian Defense Ministry in a video released on Friday.

He said the Russian air defense means have shot down a Su-25 aircraft of Ukrainian Air Force near Mazanovka, Kharkov region.

The attacks have resulted in the elimination of more than 200 nationalists, two launchers of Buk-M1 and Osa-AKM systems near Krasnaya Gora and Artemovsk in "Donetsk People's Republic", he added.

From the Ukrainian side, the Ukraine National News Agency reported that as of Friday morning, Russian troops were still shelling cities and towns such as Sievierodonetsk, Lisichansk and Avdiivka, causing many casualties.

The general staff of the Ukrainian armed forces said Friday that the Russian army is concentrating on attacking Slavyansk, and the battle for overall control of the city of Sievierodonetsk continued.

Since the beginning of the full-scale operation of Russian troops, the Ukrainian army has lost about 30 to 50 percent of its military equipment, said Volodymyr Karpenko, commander of the logistics support of the Command of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

According to Karpenko, since the beginning of the military operation, the AFU have lost approximately 1,300 infantry fighting vehicles, 400 tanks and 700 artillery systems.

He added that international weapon support could only cover 10 to 15 percent of Ukraine's military needs.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Friday that the country has decided to end visa-free travel for Russian citizens due to the "unprecedented threats to the national security, sovereignty and territorial integrity" of Ukraine.

Previously, Russian citizens did not need visas to enter Ukraine, and they were allowed to stay for less than 90 days in the 180-day period from the date of the first entry.
