The Chinese mainland reported 128 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 36 new imported ones on Friday, said the National Health Commission in its daily report on Saturday.
Of the new local cases, 42 were reported in Gansu, 35 in Guangxi, 23 in Guangdong, 11 in Sichuan, seven in Anhui, three in Chongqing, two each in Shanghai and Jiangxi, one each in Beijing, Henan and Yunnan.
Meanwhile, the 36 new imported cases were reported in 10 provincial-level regions, including nine in Fujian, eight in Guangdong, five in Tianjin, four each in Shanghai and Sichuan, two in Chongqing, and one each in Beijing, Inner Mongolia, Shandong and Shaanxi.
Thirty-one of the local cases and six of the imported cases were re-categorized as confirmed ones from asymptomatic cases.
No new deaths and three additional suspected cases from overseas were reported on the day.
On Friday, 97 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, including 32 imported cases and 65 domestic cases. A total of 19,731 close contacts were released from medical observation, and the number of severe cases increased by six over the previous day.
The Chinese mainland had cumulatively reported 20,318 imported confirmed cases, with no deaths. Among them, 19,784 had been discharged from hospital following recovery by Friday.
There were still 534 active imported cases on the mainland, with no severe cases and three suspected cases, by Friday.
As of 24:00 on Friday, the total number of local confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 228,519, including 1,751 patients still receiving treatment, of whom 14 were in severe condition.
A total of 221,542 COVID-19 patients had been discharged from hospital on the mainland, with 5,226 deaths as a result of the virus.
As of Friday, altogether 4,527,808 close contacts had been traced, with 103,056 still under medical observation.
On Friday, 653 new asymptomatic cases, with 59 from overseas and 594 locally transmitted, were reported on the mainland.
The commission also said 5,783 asymptomatic cases, including 444 imported ones, were still under medical observation.
Thirty-seven asymptomatic cases, including six from overseas, were re-categorized as confirmed ones, and 314 asymptomatic cases, including 37 from overseas and 277 locally reported, were released from medical observation on Friday.
As of Friday, 349,298 confirmed cases, including 9,454 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 783 confirmed cases with six deaths were registered in the Macao SAR, and 4,386,289 cases, including 8,478 deaths, were reported in the Taiwan region of China.
