China's Shenzhou-14 crew successfully completed the second extravehicular activities (EVAs) and returned to the space station lab module Wentian at 17:47 Beijing time (0947 GMT) on Saturday, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) announced.
At 13:35 Beijing Time (0535 GMT), astronaut Cai Xuzhe opened the hatch of Wentian's airlock cabin. By 15:33 Beijing time (0733 GMT), both Cai and co-astronaut Chen Dong were outside, said the CMSA.
During the EVAs, co-astronaut Liu Yang was inside the core module, supporting her crewmates.
This was the second time for the Shenzhou-14 crew to conduct EVAs, but the first time for Cai.
With the aid of the small mechanical arm, astronauts Cai and Chen conducted a series of extravehicular tasks, including the installation of extravehicular assistance handles and the extended pump set of the load circuits. They also verified the extravehicular rescue capability.
At 17:47 Beijing time (0947 GMT), the three astronauts have successfully completed the 5-hour EVAs in cooperation, said the CMSA.
Chen Dong and Liu Yang completed the Shenzhou-14 crew's first EVAs and returned to Wentian on Sept. 2.
On June 5, China launched the crewed spaceship Shenzhou-14, sending the crew of three astronauts to its space station combination for a six-month mission aimed at completing the final phase of construction of the Tiangong by the end of 2022.
