The Shenzhou-14 crew, after staying at China's space station for half a year and performing rotation with their Shenzhou-15 colleagues, is scheduled to return to Earth on Sunday.
The three astronauts Chen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe are expected to land at the Dongfeng landing site in the Gobi Desert, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
The Shenzhou-14 crew met with the three Shenzhou-15 astronauts Fei Junlong, Deng Qingming and Zhang Lu at the China Space Station on Wednesday, a historic gathering that culminated the manpower at the in-orbit space lab to six for the first time. The Shenzhou-15 manned spacecraft was launched on Tuesday night.
During their following six-month mission, the Shenzhou-15 crew will carry out tests related to long-term residence in China's space station at its three-module configuration.
On Friday evening, the two crews held a ceremony at which the Shenzhou-14 trio handed over the keys to the Chinese space station to their successors.
"After we lived and worked together for nearly three days, we, the Shenzhou-14 crew, have completed the hand-over work of the space station," said Chen, commander of the Shenzhou-14 mission.
"On behalf of the Shenzhou-15 mission crew, I have confirmed it and will sign," said Fei, commander of the three-member Shenzhou-15 crew.
Then the six astronauts signed the confirmation letters, separately, and exchanged their wishes and gratitude to each other.
"We are about to depart as we’ll soon complete the mission of Shenzhou-14. Now, I hand over the keys to the space station to you, and wish you a full success in fulfilling the follow-up tasks," said Chen.
"Thank you. On behalf of the Shenzhou-15 mission crew, I thank you for laying a good foundation for us in the early stage. We will surely complete the spacecraft mission of Shenzhou-15 in full success," said Fei.
The Shenzhou-14 crew now has completed all the scheduled tasks.
To prepare for their smooth landing, the landing site and all personnel involved in testing systems are moving into top gear and getting everything ready for spacecraft tracking, return capsule recovery, and on-site rescue for astronauts.
Sitting atop a Long March-2F Y14 carrier rocket and carrying Chen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe - the third crew entering China's Tianhe space station core module, the Shenzhou-14 was launched on June 5 at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.
Six months later, the Shenzhou-14 astronauts have achieved a number of firsts, including the first in-orbit docking of two 20-ton space modules, the first time of astronauts entering the Wentian and Mengtian lab modules, and the first two-hour fast autonomous docking of a cargo spaceship.
