The technological advancement in China's agriculture and relating sectors and the government support are offering more and appealing career choices for a new generation to work at doorsteps.
Digital technology and smart devices have been used in crop farming in east China's Jiangsu Province. Li Xinling, a villager in Suining County, is benefiting from the technology.
As the first agricultural drone operator in her village, Li is extremely busy in spring. This year, she ordered an agriculture drone of the latest version to improve the efficiency of fertilization.
"The load of the agricultural drone this year has increased by 10 kilograms. Previously, it took twice efforts to load the drone with a bag of fertilizer. Now the new version can be loaded with a bag of fertilizer at one time. In this way, it can save time and improve efficiency," said Li.
Li is good at operating the agricultural drone. She can skillfully set the flight speed, height, and direction on the control panel.
Last year, Li used the agricultural drone to apply fertilizer for more than 200 hectares of farmland. Together with other agricultural service, Li earned over 200,000 yuan (about 29,000 U.S. dollars).
Inspired by Li, dozens of families in her village have bought an agricultural drone.
"When I just joined in the profession, I could apply fertilizer for 13 hectares to 20 hectares a day, making about 1,000 yuan (about 147 U.S. dollars), a really high income for me. But the upgrade of drones brings even higher income today," said Li, adding that her income can reach as high as 5,000 yuan (about 737 U.S. dollars) a day.
Over the past years, Li also taught buyers how to use agricultural drones and become a new-generation farmer.
The improved environment to start a business is another factor that allures young people to work in their hometowns.
The government of Hejian City of north China's Hebei Province set up four business incubator bases, providing one-stop and comprehensive service for young people to start a business at the zero cost.
In Yongfeng County of east China's Jiangxi Province, the local government brought production lines to process locally-produced organic vegetables and traditional Chinese medicines, creating more job opportunities for residents.
