Storyline

Riding the wave of China's rebounding economic growth, many places across the country are trying to achieve high quality development by relying on the improvement of industrial quality and efficiency.
As one of China's oldest industrial bases, Jilin Province in northeast China is home to many important manufacturing companies.

This year, the province has put its focus on the development of emerging industries, such as next-generation aerospace information technology and high-end equipment manufacturing, in a bid to find some new drivers for its economic growth.

At an industrial park in the capital city of Changchun, the research and production of the Jilin-1 series of commercial satellites are in full swing.

"We will focus on the existing industrial base and comparative advantages of Jilin to cultivate upstream and downstream enterprises, so as to further improve and reinforce the industrial chains, form a highly concentrated industrial cluster with division of labor, and speed up the efforts to foster new drivers of innovation-driven development," said Yi Huanyu, head of the high technology department under the Jilin Province Development and Reform Commission.

In northwest China's Gansu Province, the Lanzhou New Area has sped up the development of new material and fine chemicals industries to further expand and reinforce relevant industrial chains.

"By accelerating the construction of the new material industrial park, a good development momentum featuring complete and interconnected industrial chains has been formed. This will lay a good foundation for us to build an important national base of new energy and material industries," said Chen Xiaobin, deputy director of the economic development bureau of Lanzhou New Area.

Jiaxing City in east China's Zhejiang Province has launched a plan to nurture enterprises that use special and sophisticated technologies to produce novel and unique products, and promote two-way interaction between sci-tech research and industries.

"The achievements of scientific research institutions can thus match up closely with the demands of enterprises. This makes the service more targeted. Meanwhile, based on the market demand, we want to make Jiaxing into a pacesetter for the commercialization of research findings," said Wu Genjun, an official with the science and technology department of Jiaxing.

Given its unique geographical advantage, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China is striving to develop itself as the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt.

In Xinjiang, many ports have streamlined customs clearance procedures and opened green channels in a move to better facilitate foreign trade.
