5. Metal germanium
China will restrict the export of gallium and germanium, two components for chips and radar systems, according to a circular issued by the Ministry of Commerce on Monday.
According to the statement, the ministry will impose export controls on gallium- and germanium-related items in order to safeguard Chinese national security and interests.
Exporters will have to apply to the Ministry of Commerce for an export license and report the contract and utility before shipping out related items, the statement said.
The export control will take effect on August 1.
