Heads of delegations participating in the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer World University Games or Universiade, which is underway in southwest China's Chengdu, on Monday hailed the high standards of organization and the enthusiastic volunteers and their high level of professionalism.
The Universiade, which opened on July 28 and runs until Aug. 8, welcomed over 6,000 athletes from more than 100 countries and regions to participate.
Out of the 49 venues of the Games, only 13 are newly constructed, and the other 36 are re-purposed and upgraded buildings.
According to Chengdu's science and technology department, more than 170 high-tech products have been deployed at over 30 venues to offer support for hosting, participation and watching of the events.
"Chengdu FISU Games is one of the best events that I that I've participated in my life. This was very nice, very amazing. It's not just me that sees this but all the people here," said Resende Heritson, head of delegation from Cape Verde to 31st Universiade.
"The organizing of this whole FISU Games from the Chinese organizing committee has been fantastic. All the venues are beautiful, they are excellent, they are world class. You know, Chengdu has really prepared for this competition and gave all the delegates and athletes world class standards in terms of the venue," said Huang Yaotang, head of Singaporean delegation.
Volunteers have also played a vital role in the success of the FISU Games as there were 20,000 of them working at various venues to provide services.
"Yesterday I was in the basketball one and was amazed that 98 percent of the lower part of the seats were full. And it was a great game. And one of things that I can take from these Games are the volunteers. They are doing a great job and I think they make this journey easy. And we have to say thank you to all of them," said Gabriel Valdez, head of delegation from Panama.
"I think everything is going perfect, we haven't had like any big mix-ups or anything going wrong or something like this, everything has been running really smoothly and I think it's a really good organization," said Karl Trepin, head of Estonian delegation.
The Chengdu Universiade also served as a platform for international cultural communications, as global athletes and sports officials participating the event also had the chance to know about each other as well as each other's culture in the athletes' village.
"One thing that is really special for the world University Games is the cultural exchange. Overall, I just think it is a great place to meet new friends from different countries and exchange cultures. Here you got everything together, all the athletes together, all the officials together, is that we've gotten to know a lot better," said Sofus Rasmussen, head of Norwegian delegation.
