Storyline

Chinese authorities are stepping up relief efforts in the northern region as floodwaters recede, marked by dredging, cleaning and disinfection work in affected areas.

In Hebei province, more than 2,000 road blockages have been repaired, and over 30 million square meters have been disinfected to prevent possible disease spread.

In Hebei's Zhuozhou City, soldiers and teachers are working together to clear debris in schools.

"We estimate that by August 25, we will complete all the dredging, cleaning, and disinfection. Then we'll spend another five or six days repairing doors and windows, adding new office equipment and facilities, to ensure that new semester starts on September 1 as scheduled," said Li Zongchen, Party Secretary of Zhuozhou Middle School.

Express delivery services are gradually resuming in Zhuozhou as well. Among the eight local delivery companies, four have already restarted businesses.

In Beijing's Mentougou District, inspections and repairs are being conducted on 28 flood-affected bridges to ensure smooth public transportation.

Meanwhile, in Tianjin Municipality, teams are working round-the-clock to patrol levees and monitor water level changes.

Hailin City, northeast Heilongjiang Province, has witnessed significant damage to its power facilities. Local power department is utilizing heavy-duty helicopters to install transmission towers, with expectations that normal power supply will be restored for 22,000 households by Friday.

In northeast Jilin's Shulan City, over 248,000 mu (about 16,533 hectares) of farmland have been drained. As Typhoon Khanun continues to bring heavy rainfall, emergency evacuations of over 23,000 people have been organized.

"All Party members and officials are on duty around the clock, ensuring the safety of villagers. We have already evacuated pigs, cows, sheep, and other livestock, allowing the residents to move without worries," said Sun Yalin, Party Secretary of Fangshen Village in Shulan.

In Jilin's Fuyu City, 36 teams are conducting continuous inspections of levees, addressing issues such as pipe leaks promptly.

China's national observatory on Thursday continued to issue a blue alert for Typhoon Khanun, the sixth typhoon of this year, which is expected to enter China on Saturday morning and bring heavy rains to the country's northern and northeastern provinces.

China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
