"I'm quite impressed with California. In my first visit to the United States 38 years ago, my first stop was California, that is, San Francisco. China and the United States are the world's top two economies, accounting for a third of the global economy, a quarter of the world's population, and a fifth of the total global trade volume. The principle China has upheld in China-U.S. relations is mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation. We will continue to work in this direction and hope that the United States will work with China in the same direction."

"I appreciate that, Mr. President, particularly the relationship to our sub-national engagement. Today, two million Chinese-Americans live in the state of California. We truly are the gateway to China, with respect, in the spirit of figuring out a way to find the terms of our future, one with mutuality, one with benefit the commonwealth. I don't think there's a more essential relationship, there will not be one more essential than the relationship we form together, the United States and China, in our lifetimes."
