The second Chinese Documentary Film Festival opened in south China's Zhuhai City on Thursday, featuring a series of activities to promote outstanding Chinese documentaries and shine a spotlight on short film-making.
The three-day festival features various themed activities including awards ceremonies, public screenings, exchanges among filmmakers, and new film releases, offering a glimpse of the latest achievements of China's documentary film-making industry.
The event will culminate in an awards ceremony honoring some of the country's most outstanding documentary film works. A total of 32 documentaries licensed for public screening over the past three years were nominated ahead of the festival.
The shortlisted films were announced at Thursday's opening ceremony and, after careful deliberation, 17 have been recommended across four categories, covering the areas of international communication, natural science, cultural and history and society.
The final award winners will be revealed at a lavish ceremony on the closing night on Saturday.
Meanwhile, a special conference for new documentary releases will be set up at this year's festival in order to provide a platform for new works to be better publicized and reach broader audiences.
The first edition of the festival was held in Zhuhai last December.
