"Since the latest round of conflict broke out in the Gaza Strip last October, we have witnessed countless attacks on houses, schools, hospitals, humanitarian facilities and UN agencies. Today, we have witnessed attacks on diplomatic institutions. The red line of international law and the basic norms of international relations has been broken again and again, and the bottom line of human moral conscience has also been repeatedly broken. This tragic situation must be ended immediately."

China condemns the Israeli airstrikes on the Iranian Consulate building in Syria, which is a serious violation of the UN Charter and international law, said Geng Shuang, China's deputy permanent representative to United Nations, on Tuesday.
Seven Iranian military advisers and six Syrians were killed in the Israeli airstrikes on the building of the Iranian Consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus on Monday, according to Iran's state TV channel IRIB reported on Tuesday.
At a UN Security Council meeting over the airstrikes, Geng said this attack is a serious violation of the UN Charter and international law. It violates the sovereignty of both Syria and Iran. China strongly condemns the attack, he said.
According to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the universally recognized norm in international relations, the security of diplomatic institutions cannot be violated. If this bottomless and reckless behavior is allowed to go unpunished, it will send a serious wrong message and lead to more hazardous behaviors. Iran, Syria and other Arab countries have solemnly protested against and condemned Israel, hoping that Israel could respond to this, Geng noted.

Geng said China calls on all parties, especially countries that have important influence on Israel, to play a constructive role and make practical efforts to push for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, cool down the situation in the Middle East at an early date, and restore peace and stability in the region.
