China's top political advisor Wang Huning on Friday called for more efforts to deepen the integrated development across the Taiwan Strait.
Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks at a conference on building demonstration zones for integrated development across the Taiwan Strait in Xiamen in eastern China's Fujian Province.
Deepening the integrated development across the Taiwan Strait, supporting Fujian Province in exploring new paths for integrated development and constructing a demonstration zone for cross-Strait integration, is a significant decision and deployment made by the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, Wang said.
It is necessary to implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and the Party's overall policy for the new era on resolving the Taiwan question, promote the construction of demonstration zones for integrated development across the Taiwan Strait from a strategic and overall perspective, and strive for deep and solid progress in integrated development of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, Wang said.
Efforts should be made to boost economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, deepen integration and development in various fields, and enable the Taiwan compatriots to share the opportunities and achievements brought by Chinese modernization, he said.
Wang noted that Fujian Province possesses unique advantages in promoting the integrated development across the Taiwan Strait. It is necessary to support Fujian in exploring new paths for integrated development across the Strait and set a good example for the comprehensive deepening of cross-Strait integration.
It is important to consistently pursue high-quality development throughout the entire process of the cross-Strait integration, deepen economic integration between the two sides, and expand the benefits and boost the sense of gain for people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, he said.
More efforts should be made to facilitate the Taiwanese compatriots, especially the youth, to study, live, work, and start businesses on the mainland, and promote the sense of community for the Chinese nation through exchanges and interactions, Wang said.
Meanwhile, it is necessary to explore and innovate the new path for cross-Strait integration and development, study and address the difficulties and bottlenecks, and strengthen overall coordination and ensure accountability, Wang said.
The officials from the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee, the National Development and Reform Commission, the government of Fujian Province reported on the progress of the construction of cross-Strait integration and development demonstration zones.
Representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the People's Bank of China delivered speeches at the conference.
