Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister, co-chaired the meeting.
Under the theme "Towards a Safer and Cleaner Lancang-Mekong Community," the meeting provided an opportunity for the foreign ministers to review progress under the LMC mechanism.
The meeting touched on key issues, such as connectivity, economic stability and sustainable development.
Minister Wang Yi said that he was very happy to be able to meet with all of the members. Since the LMC is one big family, all the members should try and support the security, innovation and peace within the region, he noted.
Regarding trans-boundary crimes, Wang said China is willing to share its information and technology as well as data management to counter these crimes.
He emphasized that, all in all, the LMC is a very important entity in a time with profound changes, and it serves as a mechanism to further the progress and development of the relevant countries.
The LMC countries include China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.
Launch in China in 2016, the LMC focuses on five priority areas of cooperation, namely, connectivity, production capacity, cross-border economic cooperation, water resources management and agriculture, and poverty reduction.
