"The development history of China-U.S. relations tells us that the two countries both stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation. We always believe that a stable, sound and sustainable China-U.S. relationship is in line with the common interests of the two nations and meets expectations of the international community. China is willing to strengthen dialogue and expand mutually beneficial cooperation with the new administration of the United States, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Monday, the day of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's swearing-in as the new head of state of the United States.
Speaking at a press conference in Beijing in response to questions related to China's expectations for Trump's presidency, as well as China-U.S. relations in the future, Mao Ning, the spokeswoman, said that China is ready to enhance communication and expand collaboration with the new U.S. administration on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation.
"The development history of China-U.S. relations tells us that the two countries both stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation.
