Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Monday extended festive greetings to people from non-CPC political parties and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, personages without party affiliation, and other members of the united front ahead of the Spring Festival, or the Chinese New Year.
Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, sent the greetings when he took part in an annual gathering with non-CPC members at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The reception was also attended by Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Cai Qi, director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee. Both are members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
Those attending the gathering on invitation included leaders of eight non-CPC parties, head of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), and representatives of personages without party affiliation.
In a speech on their behalf, Cai Dafeng, chairman of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy, vowed to make greater contributions to the great cause of building a strong country and national rejuvenation in the new year.
After listening to Cai's speech, Xi delivered an important address. He said that 2024 was a year of overcoming challenges and forge ahead. Over the past year, the CPC Central Committee united and led the entire Party and the Chinese people of all ethnic groups to achieve the main goals and tasks for economic and social development, with new, solid progress made in the country's ongoing modernization drive.
These achievements are the result of the strong leadership of the CPC and the hard work and joint efforts of all sectors, including the non-CPC political parties, the ACFIC, and personages without party affiliation, he said.
Xi noted that over the past year, the non-CPC political parties and personages without party affiliation have fully implemented the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee, focused on advancing Chinese modernization, actively offered suggestions and proposals and strengthened democratic supervision, thus contributing to the CPC Central Committee's scientific decision-making and effective policymaking. The ACFIC has helped implement policies to facilitate the development of the private sector, and has done a lot to promote the healthy development of the non-public sector and those working within it.
On behalf of the CPC Central Committee, Xi expressed heartfelt thanks to them all.
Noting that 2025 is the final year of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), Xi stressed that greater efforts should be made to achieve the goals and tasks set out in the plan and to lay a solid foundation for a good start of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030).
He called on the non-CPC political parties, the ACFIC and personages without party affiliation to focus on the central tasks, serve the overall national interests, and leverage their respective strengths in building up public support, consensus, wisdom, and strength.
Xi put forward three hopes for the non-CPC political parties, the ACFIC and personages without party affiliation: enhance their political stance, actively offer suggestions and make constructions, and better perform their duties.
The Spring Festival falls on Jan 29 this year.
