The Israeli army conducted large-scale operations in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin for the third consecutive day, killing at least 12 people, said the official Palestinian news agency WAFA on Thursday.
According to WAFA, the Israeli military imposed a strict blockade on the Jenin camp and deployed drones to circle overhead. It also damaged the main road leading to the Jenin Government Hospital and blocked the hospital entrance with dirt mounds, making it difficult to evacuate the wounded.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army said in a press statement that during its operation together with the Shin Bet security agency, its forces killed two "members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement" who were involved in an attack on Jan 6 in the village of Al-Funduq, east of the West Bank city of Qalqilya, "which killed three Israelis and wounded six others."
However, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, said the two men were its members.
The ongoing operation in Jenin, a territory occupied by Israel since the 1967 Middle East war, has drawn widespread condemnation. The foreign ministries of Jordan, Iraq, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday issued condemnations of the Israeli raid, calling for efforts to restore regional stability and prevent further escalation.
The operation comes as Israel halted its fighting in Gaza on Sunday, as a truce agreement took effect. Still, violence has escalated in the West Bank with the raid in Jenin and a series of settler attacks on Palestinian villages.
