Japan, a country bearing grave responsibilities for historical crimes, should handle Taiwan-related issues prudently, said Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, on Wednesday.

Her statement came in response to a question regarding Japan's decision to allow people from Taiwan to register their place of origin as Taiwan instead of China starting from May 1st.

"There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is part of China. Japan's move attempts to create 'two Chinas' or 'one China, one Taiwan', which seriously violates the one-China principle and seriously interferes in China's internal affairs. We firmly oppose this. On the Taiwan issue, Japan bears grave responsibilities for the historical crimes. It should draw lessons from history, act with prudence, adhere to the one-China principle and the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, and handle Taiwan-related issues prudently. 　日本の法務省は5月から、日本在住の台湾人が戸籍の国籍欄を従来の「中国」から「台湾」に変更することを認める方針を発表した。

　国務院台湾事務弁公室の朱鳳蓮報道官は26日の記者会見で、日本が「一つの中国、一つの台湾」を作り出そうと企てているとして「歴史的責任を負う国として台湾問題に慎重に対応すべきだ」と示した。
