2. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman, Taiwan Affairs Office of State Council:
"There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is part of China. Japan's move attempts to create 'two Chinas' or 'one China, one Taiwan', which seriously violates the one-China principle and seriously interferes in China's internal affairs. We firmly oppose this. On the Taiwan question, Japan bears grave responsibilities for the historical crimes. It should draw lessons from history, act with prudence, adhere to the one-China principle and the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, and handle Taiwan-related issues prudently. We sternly warn the Democratic Progressive Party authorities that misjudging the situation and seeking Taiwan secession by relying on external forces is doomed to fail.”
