German business leaders have expressed high expectations for China's upcoming "two sessions", hoping that development plans unveiled at the meetings will inject new momentum into the global economy and further promote technological innovation, green transformation, and international cooperation.
The "two sessions" are the annual meetings of China's top legislature, the National People's Congress (NPC), and the top political advisory body, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), scheduled to open on March 5 and 4, respectively.
The first major issue on the agendas of the meetings is the annual growth target. The figure, set to be unveiled in the government work report at the start of the NPC session, is among the most anticipated topics every year.
Alongside the GDP target, the government work report is expected to outline other key economic indicators, including the deficit-to-GDP ratio and inflation target. It will also set development priorities for the year.
Jorg Scheer, managing director of a German company, commended China's consistent forward momentum in a range of fields.
"I eagerly await the 'two sessions' as always. The past few decades have demonstrated China's commitment to economic development and its steady progress. I believe China will unleash further growth momentum in consumption and technology. Our research and development as well as production bases in China are highly competitive and drive our high-quality development in the Chinese market," he said.
Norbert Gemmeke, executive director of a German company, emphasized the importance of the Chinese market in driving global innovation.
"China is crucial for us. Technological development there is incredibly rapid, at least one-third faster than in other parts of the world," said Gemmeke.
German business leaders also expressed hopes to further strengthen their ties with the Chinese market and deepen cooperation in key areas such as smart manufacturing and green development.
"China's progress in the automotive industry is remarkable. At the same time, China's deployment of renewable energy sources like wind and solar is also very extensive. After all, electric vehicles only make sense if they are truly powered by renewable electricity," said Dr. Jochen Kockler, chairman of the executive board of Deutsche Messe AG, the organizer of the Hannover Messe trade fair.
