"I think the areas where we can work together is clearly green technology as one energy transition. I think we both face the same challenges in making the world more sustainable. From the Dutch perspective, agriculture and horticulture is very important. We have challenges when it comes to world food supply. And of course [for] the broader areas of technology, the AI is a very important one, not only on the production, but also on code of conduct -- where we can work together when it comes to not only the promotion of artificial intelligence, but also the regulation."

In the last days, a very important high-level delegation of China visited us, we have a new government in Uruguay that is committed to continue to foster the bilateral relations with China in all the different areas, and especially in trade, economic cooperation, trying to bring more investments, having more cooperation in science and technology, and of course to continue the political understanding of the two countries that has been so important in the last four decades of bilateral relations."

Storyline

International representatives to China on Wednesday shared their expectations for China's ongoing "two sessions", a key political event shaping policy direction, which are now underway in Beijing.

In separate interviews with China Media Group, they cited China's progress in health care development, green technologies, and its hopes for better bilateral ties with other countries.

Dutch Ambassador to China Andre Haspels said that the Netherlands and China can cooperate on green technology and food sustainability.

"I think the areas where we can work together is clearly green technology as one energy transition. I think we both face the same challenges in making the world more sustainable. From the Dutch perspective, agriculture and horticulture is very important. We have challenges when it comes to world food supply. And of course [for] the broader areas of technology, the AI is a very important one, not only on the production, but also on code of conduct -- where we can work together when it comes to not only the promotion of artificial intelligence, but also the regulation," said Haspels.

Uruguay Ambassador to China Fernando Lugris said that the New Uruguay administration is committed to fostering bilateral ties with China.

"This is a very special year for the relations of Latin America, the Caribbean and China, since we are going to have a new edition of the China-CELAC Forum [the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States]. So, we have a lot of expectations on how we can elevate our comprehensive strategic partnership into a new level," Lugris said.

"In the last days, a very important high-level delegation of China visited us, we have a new government in Uruguay that is committed to continue to foster the bilateral relations with China in all the different areas, and especially in trade, economic cooperation, trying to bring more investments, having more cooperation in science and technology, and of course to continue the political understanding of the two countries that has been so important in the last four decades of bilateral relations," he said.

Hailing China's progress in expanding access to health care for its population, WHO Representative to China Martin Taylor expressed hopes that China can further contribute to the global health at large.

"In recent years, China has made good progress in terms of health care development, both in terms of expanding the health care system so that more people can access health care. We've seen China both investing in terms of strengthening the health care system, but also, in particular, in terms of strengthening the epidemiological surveillance. China makes some strong financial contributions as well in terms of supporting global health and other countries. So we're looking forward to China continuing to play and deepen its role as a global health leader," said Taylor.

As the biggest annual gathering on China's political calendar, the "two sessions" refers to the annual sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC), the country's national legislature, and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top political advisory body.
