2. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Guo Jiakun, spokesman, Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"The accusations against China by a handful of countries and organizations ignore facts, distort the truth, and interfere in China's internal affairs. China strongly deplores and firmly opposes this. The Taiwan question is purely part of China's internal affairs which brooks no foreign interference. What truly undermines peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait are the separatist moves in Taiwan and the external forces that embolden them."

4. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Guo Jiakun, spokesman, Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"If the relevant countries and organizations genuinely desire peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, they should align with the international community's prevailing consensus on the one-China principle, abide by their political commitments to China, respect China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and oppose any form of Taiwan separatism. Moves to clamor for 'Taiwan independence' mean separating China, support for 'Taiwan independence' means interference in China's internal affairs, and attempts to abet 'Taiwan independence' mean destabilizing the Taiwan Strait."

6. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Guo Jiakun, spokesman, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (partially overlaid with shot 7):
"The joint military exercises serve as a resolute punitive response to the wanton provocations by Taiwan authorities led by Lai Ching-te in pursuit of separatism, a stern warning to Taiwan separatist forces attempting to disrupt cross-Strait peace, and a responsible action to safeguard national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity. No external force has the right to make irresponsible remarks on this. As long as Taiwan separatism provocations persist, countermeasures against them will continue. We will never allow anyone, any force to split Taiwan from China by any means, and will take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity."

The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) will continue to mete out punitive countermeasures as long as separatist provocations from the Taiwan region persist, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun said in Beijing on Wednesday.
Guo made the statement at a press conference in Beijing one day after the PLA's Eastern Theater Command ordered multiple forces under it to commence a new round of joint military exercises around the Taiwan Island.
Addressing the press conference, Guo dismissed accusations of the latest PLA drills as misrepresentations of facts and interference in China's internal affairs.

The spokesman urged certain countries and organizations to respect China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to refrain from supporting any form of separatist activities staged by Taiwan authorities.

The PLA's drills are a necessary countermeasure to actions taken by Taiwan's separatist-minded authorities, Guo told reporters.
