With 200 days to go until the much-anticipated 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE), organizers announced on Friday that nearly 800 companies from over 70 countries have already signed up to participate in this year's expo.
To mark the 200-day countdown to the opening of the expo, a pre-expo matchmaking event was held in Shanghai for exhibitors and buyers in the food and agricultural products sector, particularly within the dairy and agricultural products segment.
The event aimed to foster targeted connections between suppliers and buyers, offering a platform to explore new business opportunities. A total of 41 exhibitors and organizing institutions took part, covering industries such as dairy, fresh produce, seafood and meat.
Many of the participating companies are newcomers to the CIIE, drawn by the potential of China's vast consumer market.
"China is a very big market and we are looking for a partner," said Bent Mortensen, founder of Greenland-based Inuit Seal Oil.
Over 100 buyers engaged in on-site negotiations and product sampling sessions., with some revealing plans to leverage China's vast consumer base to diversify sourcing and sales channels.
"Previously, we mainly sourced dried fruits and beef from the United States. Due to the tariff impact, we've now shifted most of these procurement needs to South America and Australia. This won't have a major impact on our business operations," said purchasing agent Zheng Yongjie.
The upcoming edition of the CIIE -- the world's first national-level exposition dedicated exclusively to imports -- is scheduled to take place in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, 2025.
The 7th CIIE, taking place in Shanghai on November 5-10, 2024, brought together 3,496 exhibitors from 129 countries and regions, setting a new record with 297 Fortune Global 500 companies and industry leaders attending the event.
